Shun Knives and Knife Sets
Shun Knives are Japanese handcrafted premium professional quality knives. Used by the worlds most renowned chefs, these knives are a true representation of amazing craftsmanship.
Where are Shun knives made?
Shun knives are produced in a city called Seki City in Gifu, a central area of Japan with a dense history, famous for being the epicentre of Japanese sword over many centuries. Staying true to Japanese tradition, the craftsmen are highly trained and use similar techniques when producing their knives as traditional sword making.
What are Shun knives made from?
Over one hundred individual steps are required to produce a single hand-made Shun knife, combining two kinds of metal VG10 (1% Carbon, 15% Chromium, 1% Molybdenum, 0.2% Vanadium, 1.5% Cobalt, and 0.5% Manganese) and stainless steel to produce their incredible patterned knives. This combination allows for their makers to produce Damascus style blades where there are distinct patterns along the side of the blade. It also ensures incredible sharpness, weight balance and durability.
Shun prefers to craft their handles from Pakkawood, a combination of wood and plastic composite material. This allows for a high amount of durability with little wear even with daily use as well as ensuring hygiene as the combination makes it non-porous and resistant to bacteria growth.
