Chef pans are one of the most versatile cookware pieces you can find in the kitchen. They all feature deep sides to allow for cooking of more ingredients, reduce splattering or spillage when stirring ingredients and all have a flat and wide cooking surface. Ideal for searing and sauteing meats, seafood or poultry to stewing and simmering sauces, a chefs pan is essentially a pan that is a hybrid of a deep frying pan and a shallow casserole.
What is the difference between a chefs pan and a saute pan?
Both chefs pans and saute pans are highly similar in shape and sizes. There are a few key differences however as a chef pan is typically wider and has sloped sides, while a saute pan is narrower with straight sides. This affects the overall cooking surface area - a chef pan will have more than a saute pan. Additionally, chef pans often have a lid, while saute pans usually do not. Finally, chef pans tend to feature identical handles on both sides where as saute pans tend to feature a longer handle similar to frying pan's on one end and a smaller helper handle on the other. Due to their typically deeper capacities chefs pans are designed to sit on the stovetop or be placed in the oven where as as sautepan with its longer handle is designed to toss ingredients when cooking.
What are the best chefs pans you recommend?
Depending on the material choice, if you are looking for a nonstick chefs pan, we recommend considering a Scanpan Chefs Pan as their nonstick pans are made in Denmark and offer incredible durability and cooking performance. Another quality option is Swiss Diamond that is produced in Switzerland and is one of the more prestigious and expensive options. Those that are requiring a more affordable chefs pan should consider Anolon, Essteele or Pyrolux.
